SEATTLE —

Washington voters approved 49 out of 50 local school levies during special elections last week.

The League of Education Voters reports $1.7 billion in taxes were passed on Feb. 12.

The local levies will pay for a variety of things, from new school construction to a sixth period of school each day.

The only levy that didn't pass was an operations levy in the Battle Ground School District in Clark County, which received 46 percent of the vote. Levies need 50 percent of the vote to pass. Most received more than 60 percent.
