As the new chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Sen. Ron Wyden was scheduled to tour the Hanford nuclear reservation.

But, Tuesday's tour by the Oregon Democrat took on added weight following Friday's announcement that a radioactive waste tank is leaking.

There's added pressure to complete a waste treatment plant at Hanford and secure waste in underground storage tanks to prevent radioactivity from reaching the Columbia River.
