TULALIP, Wash. —

Cabins that have occupied a Puget Sound beach for decades are being dismantled as the Tulalip Tribes reclaim land the tribe has been leasing.

The tribe gave the 24 tenants notice in 2005 that they would have to be out by the end of 2012 and that they would have to remove the structures by the end of March.

Spokeswoman Francesca Hillery told The Daily Herald ( http://bit.ly/Zfy4dq) the quarter-mile section of Mission Beach on Tulalip Bay will likely be restored to a natural state. The cabins are built against a steep slope that has been eroding.

Only a few tenants lived in the dwellings full time. Most were summer and weekend cabins. Resident Jaime Erickson said the decks on most homes ran together "and it was just one big family."
