Lawmakers in Olympia are considering a slew of bills related to gray wolves, including one that suggests moving some of the endangered animals to the west side of the state.
Rep. Joel Kretz represents the northeast corner of the state where many of the state's eight confirmed wolf packs roam. His bill would move some animals to western Washington "so the entire citizenship may fully enjoy the majestic species."
The measure highlights real divisions in the state over what to do with the predators that have returned to Washington faster than expected.
Another bill being considered would allow livestock owners to shoot and kill wolves that threaten their livestock without first obtaining a permit from the state. Opponents say the proposal would hurt the state's wolf recovery efforts.
