OLYMPIA, Wash. —

The Evergreen State College is opening a new wood carving studio in the college longhouse.

The Olympian ( http://is.gd/KfuG72) reports the new 800-square-foot space will be used for carving classes and workshops, as well as community events.

School officials say no public funds were used to construct the $180,000 building. It was paid for by the Ford Foundation, as part of the nonprofit's program to support diverse art spaces.

The first class that's expected to use the studio will be making box drums in April.
