Authorities say an 86-year-old resident of a Stanwood, Wash., assisted living facility opened fire on a supervisor, wounding the man.

Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said Monday night that deputies have arrested the elderly man for investigation of first-degree assault. A handgun was recovered.

The wounded 59-year-old employee was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said he was in satisfactory condition.

The shooting took place around 3 p.m. Monday at Josephine Sunset Home in Stanwood, about 50 miles north of Seattle. Officials say the shooting came after an argument.

State health officials say they plan an investigation.

Josephine CEO Terry Robertson told KIRO-TV that handguns are not allowed at the facility. It wasn't immediately known how the man got access to the weapon.

Josephine officials didn't immediately return an Associated Press call for additional details. According to its website, the facility's services include assisted living units, long term care and post-hospital rehabilitation.
