VANCOUVER, Wash. —

Vancouver school officials hope to have 500 students back in classes Thursday, but it won't be at Crestline Elementary, which has been destroyed by fire.

Evergreen Public Schools spokesman Carol Fenstermacher says students may be sent to six or seven other schools. The district is working on transportation plans.

Crestline students are home Monday. Counseling and meals for needy students are available at East Vancouver Community church.

Investigators are looking for the cause of Sunday morning's three-alarm fire. There's no dollar estimate of the damage.

Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Kevin Stromberg said the building is a total loss. The 40-year-old building had sprinklers in the rooms, but not the attic.

The district carries fire insurance.
