A spokesman for the united command overseeing the salvage of Royal Dutch Shell PLC drill barge damaged in Alaska says its future steps remain unknown.

Spokesman Kevin Hardy says it hasn't been determined whether the Kulluk (KUL'-uck) can be towed or whether it will have to be moved by a heavy lift ship.

He says its destination for repairs remains unknown and that an evaluation of the Kulluk continues.

The Kulluk is a 266-foot in diameter drilling barge that broke loose from its tow lines last month as it was being towed to Seattle. The vessel and ran aground New Year's Eve on a small island near Kodiak Island.

It was pulled off the bottom Jan. 6 and moved to a sheltered by within Kodiak Island.
