Police say license plate scanning technology helped catch a car theft suspect early Wednesday in Spokane.

KHQ reports ( http://bit.ly/WxT4Jj) a sheriff's deputy with the scanner identified the car a few minutes after it was reoprted stolen in Spokane Valley.

A short chase ended in a crash into a garage in east Spokane. Police arrested the driver a few minutes later by following his footprints in the snow.
