PULLMAN, Wash. —

A Pullman City Councilmember who is also a leader in Washington State University's student government has been arrested for drunken driving.

Authorities say Derrick Skaug was arrested for driving under the influence early Sunday morning. In a statement emailed to The Daily Evergreen, WSU's student newspaper, Skaug expressed "remorse and apologies to my family, my school and my community."

Skaug is vice president of the Associated Students of Washington State University.

Mayor Glenn Johnson said Skaug's city councilman status does not change because of this incident.
