TACOMA, Wash. —

The Coast Guard says the owner of an old ship that sank suddenly Friday at Tacoma has been identified.

Petty Officer Nathan Bradshaw says the owner is working with state agencies on a salvage plan.

He says there's some residual fuel leaking, but it's contained in an oil boom. Fuel was removed from both ships last year.

The 167-foot Helena Star sank at a marina, leaving its stern sticking out of the water. Its mast is leaning on the 130-foot Golden West, causing that vessel to list.

Both ships are on the list of derelict vessels the state would like to remove.

The Helena Star made news in 1978 when the Coast Guard intercepted it off the Washington coast with 37 tons of marijuana on board.
