YAKIMA, Wash. —

An 18-year-old was sentenced to more than three years in prison Thursday for a gang shooting in Wapato that left the teen-age victim paralyzed from the waist down.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (http://bit.ly/SLBe5l) Armando Hernandez Lopez was convicted of assault in the July 2011 shooting of Jose Mesa.

As part of his plea, Lopez is prohibited from association with gang members and getting any gang tattoos or piercings while he is in prison.

A second gang member accused in the shooting, 17-year-old Angel Antonio Gonzalez, pleaded guilty last month to assault and was sentenced to six months in jail.
