Newly sworn-in Gov. Jay Inslee, lawmakers and others are celebrating the 23rd governor's first day in office.

Inslee, a Democrat, was sworn in Wednesday morning and gave his inaugural speech. Wednesday night, a crowd of about 3,000 people were expected to join him at his inaugural ball at the Capitol.

There were various music venues and culinary students and chefs from around the Puget Sound region serving a variety of appetizers, including oysters and salmon.

While the ball mainly took place inside the rotunda of the Capitol, there were also white tents set up outside the Capitol for food and music.

No taxpayer money is used to host the event and the cost is covered by the $100 ticket price and donations from businesses, said Lisa Cosmillo, a spokeswoman for the committee that organized the ball.
