Pierce Transit's commissioners have voted to cut service by one-third at the end of September after voters defeated a proposed sales tax increase.
The plan approved Monday night would eliminate weekend and holiday service. Weekday service will also be reduced during the middle of the day and in the evening.
Operations vice president Doug Middleton says bus operators have been quitting at the accelerated rate of one per week since the sales tax proposal was narrowly defeated in November.
