LINCOLN CITY, Ore. —

The retiring police chief in Lincoln City, Ore., says a commander with the Clark County, Wash., sheriff's office will succeed him.

Outgoing Chief Steven Bechard tells The Columbian newspaper ( http://is.gd/QUFABV) that Commander Keith Kilian will take over in Lincoln City on Jan. 22.

The agency has been searching for a police chief since Bechard announced his retirement plans in August.

The Columbian reports that Kilian has worked at the Clark County sheriff's office for 34 years.
