YELM, Wash. —

After climbing out of the crawlspace of a Yelm house, a heating repairman told homeowner Velma Kellen he had good news and bad news.

The good news: He fixed her heating ducts. The bad news: Someone had been living in the crawlspace and diverted the heat to keep warm.

The repairman found beer cans and a liquor bottle beneath the house as evidence of the squatter.

Kellen told KOMO-TV Monday (http://bit.ly/WtTR9Q) she had no idea how long the unwanted visitor had been climbing into her crawlspace, which has an opening to her back yard. She called the repairman because the furnace was failing to warm the house.

Kellen thinks the visitor may have smoked marijuana, because she often smelled smoke. The squatter fooled her three dogs who never barked.
