Forecasters say Monday's snow in the mountains and Eastern Washington could be followed by a stronger system Tuesday night that could drop an inch or two of snow by Wednesday night in the higher locations of the Western Washington lowlands.

The National Weather Service forecast a foot of snow or more in the higher elevations of the Cascades Monday with snow or freezing rain at the passes. Snow will fall over much of the Inland Northwest with 1 to 3 inches making driving difficult in the Spokane area.

Forecasters expect a lull in the weather Monday night before the wetter, stronger system brings locally heavy rain in Western Washington, mountain snow and rain or snow in Eastern Washington.
