Workers are scrubbing mold and algae off the 120-foot-tall dome at the Port of Everett.

A crew from Sparkle Wash of Puget Sound began the five-day job Wednesday under a $14,000 contract with Lehigh Northwest Cement Co. It signed a 20-year lease for the dome in 2006 but stopped storing cement powder there three years because of the poor economy.

The dome was previously used to store aluminum ore. It's a landmark on the Everett waterfront.

The Daily Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/VEShCR) the power washing team met with health and safety officials before starting the job. Cleaning water is channeled into a sewer so it won't pollute Puget Sound.
