YAKIMA, Wash. —

A man described as a regular panhandler in Yakima was found dead in his car Tuesday night with $1,700 in cash and a half-pound of heroin.

Police say 56-year-old Douglas D. Budd had a hypodermic needle in his arm and apparently died of a drug overdose.

Capt. Rod Light told the Yakima Herald-Republic (http://bit.ly/WgaTbw) Budd split his time between drug-dealing and panhandling at one of the city's busiest intersections. He had a criminal record that included shoplifting, burglary, theft and drug convictions.
