STEVENSON, Wash. —

The Skamania County sheriff's office says deputies and volunteers rescued a Portland woman who became lost in heavy snow while snowshoeing on Dog Mountain, about 10 miles east of Stevenson.

Betsy Steinhart called for help Tuesday afternoon and a team of deputies and search and rescue volunteers reached her in about three hours. A Coast Guard helicopter from Astoria responded as well, but was unable to assist because of high winds.

Additional rescuers helped everyone get back to the trailhead by about 9:30. Steinhart was not hurt.
