A district attorney says police in the northeast Oregon town of Hermiston fatally shot a bank robbery suspect who pointed a gun at them.
Umatilla County, Ore., District Attorney Daniel Primus said the man wounded in the Monday afternoon shooting was taken to a Hermiston hospital, where he died Monday evening. KNDU-TV reports that he was not immediately identified.
Officers were responding to a report of a robbery at the Community Bank. Witnesses reported seeing the robbery suspect leave the bank, cross a highway, walk through a parking lot and enter a liquor store. Two police officers entered the liquor store a short time later. The district attorney says witnesses reported seeing the suspect draw what looked like a black semi-automatic handgun and point it at the officers. The officers who fired were not immediately identified.
The Umatilla County sheriff's office will take the lead in investigating the robbery and shooting.
