The Washington Department of Ecology says a "stage one" burn ban called for north central Washington is expiring on Christmas Day at 10 a.m.
The ban affecting Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties applies to the use of uncertified wood-burning stoves, inserts and fireplaces and all outdoor burning.
Although the ban called on Friday is expiring, ecology officials caution against burning gift wrap because it can release toxins and heavy metals into the air.
