After a seven-month investigation by Benton County sheriff's detectives, a 20-year-old Prosser man was charged Thursday with vehicular homicide in the death of a bicyclist.
Investigators say David Lee Rivera Godinez was under the influence of alcohol when he hit 31-year-old Jared Carr of Walla Walla. He was fixing a flat tire on his bike after midnight May 27 on a highway east of Prosser. He was wearing reflective gear.
The Tri-City Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/R9tsRO) investigators found Godinez was driving 75 mph in a 50 mph zone and did not hit his bakes before striking Carr. Godinez said he swerved to avoid what he thought was a skunk in the middle of the road.
