A panel of Air Force officers is deliberating a verdict in the court-martial of a C-17 pilot at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Staff Sgt. Frances Kriss says the panel began deliberations Thursday and resumed Friday.

Capt. Jared Foley is accused of reckless endangerment and dereliction of duty in a training accident in Montana where a paratrooper from Pennsylvania died.

The Air Force says Foley approved an airdrop without command approval on July 10, 2011, at Fort Harrison's Marshall Field. Sgt. Francis Campion of Holidaysburg, Pa., hit a building outside the drop zone and died. Campion was training with the West Virginia National Guard.

Foley serves with McChords' 62nd Airlift Wing. The 17-year veteran faces more than two years in prison if convicted.

Lewis-McChord operates 51 of the C-17 transport jets.
