SPOKANE, Wash. —

The Spokane County Sheriff's office is warning that individuals are traveling door-to-door around Eastern Washington and North Idaho claiming to be collecting scrap metal on behalf of the Salvation Army.

The office says the scrap metal collection is scam. The Salvation Army does not go door-to-door to collect donations.

Authorities ask people that they write down as much information, such as license plate numbers, and refuse to give them anything if they encounter one of these individuals.
