Fishery managers in California, Oregon and Washington have delayed the opening of the commercial Dungeness crab season by at least two weeks to allow the crabs to fill with more meat.
The Dungeness season along the Oregon coast typically open Dec. 1, but can be pushed back to improve product quality.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says more tests on crab quality will be done in November or early December, and managers will determine if the season should open Dec.16 or be further delayed.
The agency says another option is different opening dates depending on the area.
