VANCOUVER, Wash. —

A young Clark County couple is taking the food stamp challenge, living on a food budget of $8 a day for both of them.

Audrey Williams is a nutrition educator and AmeriCorps worker at the Clark County Food Bank.

She told The Columbian ( http://is.gd/yKEwDO), "If we're talking the talk, we should be able to walk the walk."

Williams and her husband Connor are both 22 and recent graduates of Seattle Pacific University. Conner has a degree in ecology and is looking for work.

The challenge to live a week on a Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program budget is an observance of National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, Nov.10 to 18.

There were nearly 47 million depending on the SNAP program as of July in the United States, 1.1 million in Washington.
