SEATTLE —

A federal judge has ruled a group called Veterans for Peace should be allowed to march in Auburn's Veterans Day parade.

The ACLU of Washington had filed a lawsuit on the group's behalf saying Auburn officials were violating their free speech rights by denying their application to march. The group had participated in the parade since 2006.

U.S District Court Judge Marsha Pechman agreed that city officials were discriminating against the group of veterans because organizers disagreed with their point of view.

The city had said he would choose only those applicants that most closely met the purpose and goals of the parade. But the ACLU pointed out Auburn had accepted applications from a motorcycle club and a Daffodil Festival float, among others.
