KITTITAS, Wash. —

Authorities say a 17-year-old Kittitas High School student wounded himself with a pistol he stole from a family member's gun cabinet.

The Ellensburg Daily Record reports (http://bit.ly/SUn8xB) the teenager was sent Thursday to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Earlier in the day, the teen had arrived at school Thursday morning saying he had been shot. The secondary school was locked down and law enforcement officers, a State Patrol aircraft and K9 dogs were deployed to look for the reported shooter.

But Kittitas County Undersheriff Clay Myers says investigators determined the wound was self-inflicted. Myers says the teen apparently has been having emotional issues.
