YAKIMA, Wash. —

A Yakima County land-use official is holding up plans by the sheriff's office to build a new shooting range.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://is.gd/3WLS48) that Hearing Examiner Gary Cuillier on Friday rejected an environmental review for the shooting range, saying potentially adverse environmental impacts, such as noise, were not considered when county planners recommended approval.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office had proposed to build the shooting range on a 17-acre county-owned for use by deputies and county corrections officers to qualify their weapons.

Sheriff Ken Irwin said Friday he would need to discuss the decision with deputies before deciding how to proceed.
