TACOMA, Wash. —

An Amtrak train has collided with a pickup truck about 19 miles south of Tacoma, Wash., in an area where the rail tracks pass through Joint Base Lewis-McChord. A base spokeswoman says the crash killed the truck's driver.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas says the crash shortly before 7 p.m. Monday happened about 40 yards from a public rail crossing on BNSF right of way.

Base spokeswoman Brendalyn Carpenter confirmed the fatality.

Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham says the train was southbound from Seattle, headed for Eugene, Ore., with 153 passengers. No one aboard the train was hurt.

Melonas said the tracks were expected to reopen late Monday night after an investigation.
