SPOKANE, Wash. —

Federal prosecutors intend to ask for a prison sentence of nine to 11 years for the man convicted of using excessive force as a Spokane police officer and lying to investigators about the 2006 beating death of a mentally ill suspect.

KHQ reports (http://is.gd/sKz6dC) court documents filed by prosecutors also say Karl Thompson should reimburse the family of Otto Zehm for medical bills and funeral expenses.

Defense lawyers have not yet submitted their sentencing recommendation. Thompson is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 15 in federal court in Spokane.
