Former Walla Walla County Undersheriff Carole Lepiane has been charged with embezzling funds from the sheriff's office.

Information filed Sept. 19 in federal court in Spokane says Lepiane stole more than $67,000 from 2004 to 2009 by taking money intended for jail inmates and using it for her personal online shopping.

Her lawyer, Michael deGrasse, told the Union-Bulletin (http://is.gd/TKf24N) Lepiane is sorry for the trouble she has caused and hopes to make amends.
