Fire officials in southwest Washington say a brush fire that burned more than 100 acres at the Steigerwald National Wildlife Refuge east of Washougal has been contained.

Camas-Washougal Fire Chief Nick Swinhart says more than 30 firefighters battled the fire Friday night before bringing it under control around midnight.

He says crews successfully prevented the blaze from damaging the Washougal Industrial Park and the Washougal Waste Treatment Plant.

No injuries were reported.

Swinhart says the cause is under investigation, but it appears to have started around 5 p.m. on the shoulder of State Road 14 when someone in a passing car carelessly tossed a burning or smoldering object.
