SEATTLE —

A man who was caught strangling a hawk in a downtown Seattle park could face an animal cruelty charge.

Police were called to the park near the Pike Place Market Monday afternoon and found the man who appeared to be intoxicated holding the bird.

KOMO reports (http://is.gd/DlnIOT) officers wrestled the bird away from the man. Vets at the PAWS animal shelter euthanized the bird because of trauma and an injured wing.

The bird was a Cooper's hawk.
