A King County sheriff's spokeswoman says the sheriff's helicopter has plucked an ailing 10-year-old boy from the 7,000-foot level of a peak in central Washington.

Sgt. Cindi West said Monday that the unidentified boy's father called Chelan County officials Sunday night to say he, his young son and another man were near the top of Mount Stuart but the boy was sick and unable to hike down on his own.

Chelan County officials say the trio spent the night on the mountain because the steep terrain was too dangerous for ground teams to attempt in the dark. The boy was still sick on Monday so Chelan County asked for help from the King County sheriff's helicopter.

West says the helicopter hoisted the boy aboard and flew him to Boeing Field in Seattle. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is reported in good condition.
