Highlights of the 2012 Washington test scores
Results from the spring statewide achievement tests - Measurements of Student Progress in grades 3 through 8 and High School Proficiency Exam in 10th grade as well as end-of-course exams in algebra, geometry and biology - were released Wednesday. Not all grades took tests in all subjects.

Some highlights:
Percentage of students who met standards:
-Third grade: reading, 68.7 percent; mathematics, 65.3 percent.
-Fourth grade: reading, 71.4 percent; mathematics, 59.3 percent; writing, 61.3 percent.
-Fifth grade: reading, 71 percent; mathematics: 63.7 percent; science: 66.1 percent.
-Sixth grade: reading, 70.6 percent; mathematics, 61.4 percent.
-Seventh grade: reading, 71.2 percent; mathematics, 59.2 percent; writing, 71.0 percent.
-Eighth grade: reading, 67.2 percent; mathematics, 55.4 percent; science, 66.3 percent.
-10th grade: reading, 81.1 percent; writing, 85.2 percent.
-End of course math exams taken by students in grades 6-10: algebra, 68.4 percent; geometry, 76.1 percent.
--End of course biology exams taken by students in grades 9-10: 61 percent.
