KIRKLAND, Wash. —

The Washington State Patrol says a 44-year-old Vancouver, Wash., man is dead after his Chevy Blazer veered off northbound Interstate 405 in the Kirkland, Wash., area, hit a sign pole and caught fire.

The patrol says Todd Bekins' vehicle left the roadway to the right Friday afternoon and hit the pole.

Troopers say some witnesses stopped and pulled the man out of the car but he was dead at the scene.

The King County medical examiner's office will investigate the death.

The car was incinerated.
