SOUTH BEND, Wash. —

The Pacific County sheriff says officers have arrested a registered sex offender who was reportedly working at a carnival at the county fair near Raymond, Wash.

Sheriff Scott Johnson said his officers sought out the man Thursday after learning that the state Corrections Department was looking for him. Johnson says Corrections officials allege that the man had multiple instances of contact with minor children while working a booth at the recent Clallam County Fair.

The sheriff says 51-year-old Philip Curtis Shelly served prison time on a 1998 conviction for first-degree child rape.

He was booked into the Pacific County Jail pending extradition.

The case is under investigation.
