DARRINGTON, Wash. —

Residents in the Snohomish County town of Darrington are being asked to reduce their water usage over the next several days because of problems with a main pump that supplies the community.

Mayor Dan Rankin asked the town's 1,400 residents to immediately cease outdoor watering of plants or lawns, not fill kiddie pools - and limit the amount of laundry they do.

The water supply problems stem from a faulty main pump - one of two that supply the town with water for everything from home and business use to firefighting.

Utility crews are trying to nurse the pump along until it can be repaired or replaced. Rankin says that should happen by Wednesday of next week.
