YAKIMA, Wash. —

Former Selah City Supervisor Frank Sweet is accused of taking a laptop that belongs to the city.

He was arrested Monday and appeared in court Tuesday in Yakima where a judge found probable cause for a theft charge.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports ( http://is.gd/SuKIt4) the judge deferred a decision on whether Sweet destroyed public records when he left his job after a new mayor took office.

Sweet told officers who found the laptop at his home that the former mayor told him he could take it because it was worthless.

Sweet has been released without bail and is next due in court on Aug. 21. Earlier Monday he was offered the job of city manager in Sunnyside where he has been working since March.
