MOUNT VERNON, Wash. —

The fire that damaged a Mount Vernon church early Sunday remains under investigation.

An earlier report that it was arson has not been confirmed.

A spokeswoman for Mount Vernon, Shannon Haigh (hayg), says Wednesday that police and fire investigators are waiting for the result of tests on evidence sent to a state crime lab. She also says they're analyzing church surveillance video.

The fire damaged the sanctuary, kitchen and a storage area at Trinity Lutheran Church, but the structure remains intact.

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are helping with the investigation.
