INDEX, Wash. —

Snohomish County sheriff's detectives are trying to locate anyone who might have witnessed a hit-and-run crash in Index, Wash., that fatally injured a man and his dog.

The man and dog were walking along a road late Saturday night when they were hit.

The man was identified Tuesday as 47-year-old Stacey Lain Broyles of Index.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton says a passer-by found the victims and called for help. That person did not witness the collision.

Broyles died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His dog was taken to an animal hospital but did not survive.
