A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg and robbed at an apartment building Monday night in Yakima.

Police say he was sitting on a stairway and talking on his phone when two men approached and asked if he was a gang banger. He denied a gang affiliation. The two demanded his phone and wallet and then shot him.

The victim fell down the stairs but was able to make it back to his apartment where family members found him unconscious.
