The Tri-Cities Grain company at Pasco has a $2.8 million upgrade under way to add a long-term storage bin, silo for drying corn and a station for trucks to unload grain.

Manager Damon Filan told Tri-City Herald (http://is.gd/TRTxmE) the Midwest drought has driven up the demand for grain from the Northwest. Most Northwest corn is used in the United States for cattle and poultry feed while wheat is barged to Asia.

Tri-Cities Grain is a partnership with Tidewater Barge Lines, Northwest Grain Growers and Central Washington Grain Growers. It has contracts with 500 growers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and North Dakota.
