SEATTLE —

Waste Management says it is bringing in "many more" drivers in the next day or two to replace striking union drivers who have disrupted garbage, yard waste and recycle pickups for more than 200,000 customers in the Seattle-Everett area.

Company spokeswoman Robin Freedman says the replacements are focusing on commercial customers such as restaurants.

On the seventh day of the strike Tuesday, the union for striking recycle and yard waste trucks extended a picket line to a Waste Management facility in Burlington. Teamsters Local 117 says about 35 drivers represented by Local 231 are refusing to cross the picket line.

As garbage piles up and bins start to overflow, Waste Management is telling residential customers to wait for their next pickup day and trucks will take a double load.
