A Tacoma, Wash., businessman and civic leader who was injured on a one-day, 152-mile bike ride around Mount Rainier has died.
A King County medical examiner's spokesman confirms that 60-year-old Steve Albers of Lakewood died Friday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle of blunt force injuries to the head and body. He was injured Thursday.
National Park Chief Ranger Chuck Young told The News Tribune the accident happened on a downhill section of road. Albers was flown to Harborview's intensive care unit.
Albers was taking part in the annual Ramrod, a challenging ride that begins and ends at Enumclaw.
He was president of Albers & Co., a Tacoma financial services company. He served on the boards of Tacoma Goodwill, United Way of Pierce County and the Pierce County Library.
His company website says a memorial service is planned Tuesday.
