TACOMA, Wash. —

The historic ferry Kalakala has been moved to a new temporary mooring on the Hylebos waterway in Tacoma.

The Corps of Engineers says the move reduces the threat it will sink and block the channel.

The vessel was positioned Monday at Tacoma Industrial Properties.

The corps had threatened to seize and dispose of the ferry earlier this year after the Coast Guard declared it a hazard to navigation.

The 77-year-old, 276-foot vessel has been moored in Tacoma for eight years while the owner tried to come up with financing to restore it to its condition when it sailed Puget Sound.
