Gov. Chris Gregoire has named Brig. Gen. Bret D. Daugherty as adjutant general of the state of Washington.
Daugherty replaces Maj. Gen. Timothy J. Lowenberg, who is retiring after 13 years in the position. Gregoire announced the appointment Monday. A change of command ceremony between Lowenberg and Daugherty will take place on Saturday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Daugherty will serve as commander of all Washington Army and Air National Guard forces and director of the state's emergency management and enhanced 911 programs. He will also serve as Gregoire's homeland security adviser.
Daugherty has been assistant adjutant general since 2009.
