TACOMA, Wash. —

Children of some soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord were allowed to put their hands on a machine gun and other military equipment Thursday at the Kids Boot Camp.

They also ran an obstacle course, ate MREs and tried following marching commands.

The News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/Q9GyPj) the parents are soldiers in the 593rd Sustainment Brigade. The boot camp is an annual event to give children a taste of military work.
